Skeptical Alert Network Effort
The Association for Rational Thought maintains a local
skeptical message service for skeptics in the greater Cincinnati
area. The Skeptical Alert
Network Effort (SANE) provides
a highly irregular flow of messages of the following sorts:
- Messages of Cincinnati area skeptical interest
- Messages about the Association for Rational Thought
- Messages from CSICOP
(Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the
Paranormal, publishers of Skeptical Inquirer)
- Messages from James "The Amazing" Randi, magician and
skeptic extraordinaire, who has founded the James Randi
Educational Foundation for the propagation of skepticism in
Florida.
- Messages from Michael Shermer, the editor of
Skeptic Magazine.
- Messages of general skeptical interest
The SANE list is unmoderated -- anyone subscribed to the list
can post -- but by far the most numerous items on the list are
articles posted to other lists of interest to skeptics. In
effect, SANE acts as a filter for those lists, and only articles
that stand on their own make it to SANE. Our list members
generally consist of people who want to receive this
information, but don't have the time or inclination to deal with
the dozens of message per day that contain the list
conversations. Anyone is welcome to join the list, but if you
already subscribe to CSICOP Announcements, Skeptic magazine's
E-Skeptic, and the
Skeptic
list, there will be little on SANE that you won't see on them,
except for messages of mostly local interest.
To subscribe to the SANE list, just go to
SANE's subscription
page at Yahoo Groups.
(I wish they'd decide who owns it and what the domain name is.
It's changed hands twice recently.) If you have any problems
subscribing or unsubscribing using the eGroups web site, just
send me email and I'll handle it for you.
